My Inspiration

Ok, so you go to the Dr and you find out your child has a life threatening allergy, they hand you a piece of paper that has every alternative word for the food your kid's allergic to, which happens to be about 50 other names, they tell you to use an epi-pen on your child if they are going into anaphylaxis shock, and times up you leave.

They don't tell you what you CAN feed your child.

They don't tell you how to handle birthday parties, day care, school.

Everything becomes a threat. The food is now the enemy. Your daily life is changed forever.

From there, your quest is to become an expert. You read books on allergies, you label things, you make lists. Oh, and you hope and pray that this is the ONLY food allergy that your child develops. I read some books, I searched online... I didn't find a common place where anyone can access recipes that are kid-friendly that won't cause us to make yet another trip to the ER. My inspiration is my 3 year old son. He is allergic to milk, peanuts, and shellfish. My hope is that other people may find the information here useful. The recipes are an indication of the fact that just because they have an allergy doesn't limit their diet to bland foods.

Beyond the food allergies, my son also has asthma. This puts him at even a higher risk of having an anaphylaxis reaction. BBQs, birthdays, holidays, parties of all kinds are no longer relaxing good times. They consist of me running around following my son making sure that he doesn't eat anything and that no one gives him anything. Oh, and of course we then run into the people that think we are just over-protective mothers. I get the "Oh, yeah, my kid is lactose-intolerant, too!" quite often. Then I have to go into the whole explanation that milk allergy = life-threatening and lactose intolerance = not life-threatening. I try to explain the difference to some people, but I just get tired of the same speech every time. I tend to just avoid it altogether now.

The food allergies and asthma in no way disable my son. He is very active and enjoys going to parties, talking to other kids, playing soccer, painting, and especially loves riding elevators.

To help manage stress, I have many interests and hobbies I am featuring here. I enjoy taking photos of bugs, birds, and flowers. I also cook out of necessity, so I figured I'd add recipes I use often. The stock program is a work in progress (I'm very new to the whole investing thing).

I'm a mom. It's the best job ever! In any given day, I am a waitress, care taker, personal chef, artist, entertainer, librarian... the list goes on I'm sure! I love it and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

This site is still under continuous development. Please feel free to leave any comments. Thanks:-)
